Dicentra spectabilis and a question of light and colour in photos
These photos of Bleeding Hearts were all taken this afternoon in less than a minute. The light is different in every shot because I was aiming the camera in different directions - toward the sun, away from it, and sometimes at angles in-between. I’m usually not fond of warm sunset light that makes green look almost yellow, and prefer early morning photos that show a bit of mist or magic - silver or gray plants and cooler coloured flowers at their best. As spring turns into summer, the sun (in this part of Italy, at least) becomes the gardener’s enemy. It might be fantastic for tomatoes, cotton, and a few water plants, but for every delicious tomato we eat there are 100 wilting plants begging for a drink and dying for evening to come to perk back up and sometimes release perfume…
